If you follow me, then you will know that I love eating out. It’s my idea of the perfect night, whether I’m catching up with friends, or on a date night with the fiancé. I’ve been enjoying eating out for years now, so it nice to finally have my own little space to write my honest reviews.
In my opinion, good food and company is all you need when visiting any restaurant.
Simon and I always make time for a romantic date night and so, we decided to try a local restaurant called MCK Grill. We enjoy supporting local businesses, so when a new restaurant opens in the area, we try to make the effort to visit. This restaurant is owned by the beautiful Megan McKenna; we attended the opening last year and have been meaning to go back to review the food.

Attending the opening last year
The outside entrance is simple and understated. The minute you walk, you get the feel of the Essex glamour and the stylish London decor. Large crystal chandeliers, with a fresh, minimalistic, contemporary feel. Large mirrors and deco walls, reflecting the personality of a very stylish women!

The bar
It’s a restaurant to dress up and make a night of.
We sat and was asked straight away if we wanted to order drinks. Service was brilliant, we can’t fault the team. We ordered drinks to start; drinks are always good to get you into the ‘date night’ mood. We love drinking lychee Martini’s; however, they didn’t have these on their bar menu. so, we settled for our second favourite cocktail, the deadly Pornstar Martini! They were fab!
We attended on a Thursday night, it had a nice chilled atmosphere, which completely worked for us. There was a live singer that evening, so there was a great ambience for a school night and the music wasn’t too overbearing, so it would make a perfect night to catch up with the girls.
So far, so good and we hadn’t even tried the food.
We decided to order a starter before our mains. My starter was the Veal carpaccio, rocket, truffle, smoked cheese. Gluten free and cost £10. It was perfectly cooked, and it tasted exquisite. One of the best starters I’ve tasted in a long time. I highly recommend ordering this starter when you visit. Simon ordered the Salt & pepper calamari, saffron aioli and he was very pleased with his choice. He loves ordering calamari when we eat out and can I can honestly say, he absolutely loved his starter. We both polished off our plates!

The Veal carpaccio is a must.

Salt & pepper calamari
For my main I ordered Roasted chicken breast, sautéed potatoes, caramelised onion, jus gras. Gluten free £16. The chicken was cooked to perfection and the sautéed potatoes in caramelised Sause was just so tasty. I loved mixing the caramelised sauce with my chicken the flavours all worked.

Roasted chicken breast
Simon went for the Pork belly, braised kale, chestnut, parsnip puree, madeira Sause. Gluten free and cost £17. Again, Simon is a big fan of pork belly and I knew he was going to enjoy, however he even went on to say that it was one of the best he had tasted. Another round of empty plates.

Pork belly
We also ordered two sides with our mains. The Roasted carrots, honey, orange, rosemary. Gluten free £4 and the green beans, toasted almonds, (V, GF, N) £4.
I felt great after eating both my starter and main. I didn’t feel over full or bloated. We even managed another cocktail after our mains.
Oh, by the way there is a reason behind the slight outfit change and trainers in these two pictures. We actually didn’t plan on going that night. We were driving home, very hungry and decided to pop in AGAIN, yes twice in 2 weeks. That’s how much we liked the food. Its round the corner from us which helps! The manager there is so welcoming, he found us a table straight away!
Overall, we thought the food was well presented and was excellent quality! The vast amount of Gluten free option was a bonus for us, as I have a gluten intolerance. The service and entertainment were an added bonus. We had a lovely evening and will definitely visit again! Well kind of already have haha.
